Dr. Koto - More than just a JDrama!
As you probably know I haven't watched any jdrama in a long time.
People who have been following my LJ for many years know that I used to watch a LOT and also wrote reviews, shared screencaps and whatnot - even after moving to Japan.

However, in the past few years I have basically watched no dramas. I think the only one was "Rich Man, Poor Woman".

After coming back from my summer vacation in Okinawa where I've also visited Yonaguni - a drama location, I really couldn't resist.

Yonaguni is a very small, remote island. It is actually closer to Taiwan than to the rest of Japan.
It's location for many movies, but also for a popular jdrama called "Dr. Koto".

I've only heard about it shortly before my departure and had no time to watch it, so I visited all the shooting locations without knowing ANYTHING about the drama.
While on the island I had a chance to read the first volume of the manga. The islanders are very proud that their small island was chosen as a shooting location, so you'll find posters everywhere and my small hotel had all the manga volumes as well.

After coming back, I REALLY missed Okinawa and especially Yonaguni where I stayed the longest (4 days).

Luckily I was able to find the drama and started watching it.
And I fell in love with the island even more! Right from the start it was so great to see all the places that I've been to just a few days before!

At first I only watched because I felt nostalgic and wanted to see the island, but in no time I got TOTALLY addicted to this drama!

So far there are two seasons with 11 episodes each and two specials. They're all connected story-wise, so you need to watch it in the right order:
Season 1 (2003), Special 1 + 2 (2004), Season 2 (2006)

I could go on and write a book about the whole drama, but instead I try to make it as short as possible:

Dr. Koto (Dr.コトー診療所)

The drama (and also the manga) starts with a fishing boat in the ocean. On board are four people - all of them will play an important role throughout the entire drama series!
The most important one is Goto Kensuke (Yoshioka Hidetaka), a young doctor who came from a huge hospital in Tokyo, but is now heading to a small island.
In the manga it's a small island outside of Kyushu, in the drama it's a small island in Okinawa (just like Yonaguni is in reality).

It takes about 6 hours by boat to get from the small island to the "mainland" (in that case Naha).

The doctor gets seasick easily and the first thing we see is him throwing up several times after being told that it'll take another 4h to the island.

He doesn't make a trustworthy impression at first sight.
Once he arrives on the island the first thing he has to do is sign a death certificate. There's a dead elderly person and he needs to confirm the death before they can bury him.
Not a very good start, huh?

They bring the doctor to his "clinic" - which is right next to a beautiful beach and extremely small.

Those of you who have watched it, please tell me how you liked it!
Those of you who have read the manga AND watched the drama, please let me know if it's worth reading the manga.
Those of you who want to watch the drama now, go ahead!

[Japan]: My life = busy!
Hello everybody!

I'm sorry that I'm not around much lately. Like I already mentioned in one of my previous entries, I'm busy. I'm fully back into study-mode and I think I even update my Japanese blog(s) more often :(
I hope you understand! Next week will also be extremely busy at work, so I don't know yet when I'll be able to post the next travel entry!

This is just a quick update to show you that I'm still alive and to inform you that I'm busy, so don't expect me to read all your entries / comments IMMEDIATELY
Thanks for understanding.

Random Fact#1:

I finally have a "pseudo"-coffee machine! XD
I got really good coffee as a present, but as I have no coffee machine I had to buy one of those drip-thingies and coffee filter. Works just fine!!
I'm not much of a coffee drinker anymore (although I've started to drink more again recently), so I don't really need a coffee machine anyways.

More random facts!~ )

jdramas I'm currently watching (feat. Unubore, NatsuNiji, Nihonjin no shiranai nihongo, Hammer Session, JOKER, Beautiful Life..... )

Request/Questions:
To help my studies a bit, I'm looking for Japanese online radios. I mean ACTUAL radio stations that you also could get via a normal radio not those pseudo English anime-related online channels, but where they actually speak Japanese, have news in Japanese etc.!
I don't have a radio here, so I can't access any local radio channels. I already googled the websites of my local radio stations, but it seems they don't offer any online channel at all! :(
If you know anything, please let me know!! (*_*) (P.S.: http://radiko.jp/ does NOT work in my area!! :( ...)
Also, I'm looking for interesting Japanese websites or blogs that I could read on a daily basis or at least weekly!!! If you know any, please let me know!! You all know in what I'm interested, I guess, but anything that has to do with Japan, Germany, language studying, cats, cute things, Johnnys, travelling, photos, .... would be awesome!!! SHARE AWAY!!!~

Poll:
Last, but not least I decided to make a short poll. As my time is limited I can't write about everything I want to.
I figured I could ask you guys what you'd rather read about here. Maybe that helps me figure out what to write about, too XD

[Poll #1620386]

But after all that talk about me and my journal, I actually want to know:
Who are YOU??
1200+ crazy people have added my journal. I'm not sure if all of them actually really read my journal, but I only know a handful of those people!
I want to use today's entry to get to know you guys better! Even if we have been friends for a long time and even if I comment on your entries often, I'm sure there are still things I don't know about you.
So, this is for ALL OF YOU!! If you feel like sharing anything about you, please feel free to do so! :)
If you know that we don't know each other well, please introduce yourself!! Let me know WHO you are!!! Anything is fine really. You can also tell me what your journal is about if you want to.
Of course, you don't have to do this. That's totally up to you guys!! ;)
All comments will be screened today. I'll unscreen them if there's no personal introduction at all. If you tell me something about yourself, please write at the end of your comment if I can unscreen your comment or not :3
Thanks so much!!!

P.S.: If I'm not updating for quite a while and you're wondering what's going on, you can always check out my Twitter!!! :D

[Japan]: Bitchy laptops meet Arashi in the rain with creepy mixi members!
Hello.

It's been a while since my last entry. I've been quite busy with many things.
There's quite a lot to update about, so the next travel photo entry has to wait a bit, sorry (^-^')

One of the many things that keeps me busy is this SHITTY (excuse me) laptop!!!!
I know I've been ranting a lot about it lately, but you can't imagine HOW MUCH IT'S GETTING ON MY NERVES!!!
It's really slow and the system is suddenly freezing almost every day. I can't watch movies/dramas on my computer anymore because most of the time it's very stocking or it'll just freeze completely.
Only if I shut down all other programs it sometimes still works. It's not been like that before, so I guess I really have no other choice but to buy a new laptop ;o;

What I'm worried about as well is WHERE TO BUY a new laptop!!!
I'd love to have a German keyboard again, but Read more... )

Another reason why I don't have time is that I have too many accounts online that keep me busy:

  • Livejournal: [livejournal.com profile] chochajin and [livejournal.com profile] densha_onna

  • Mixi: I have an account since 2006, but have not really been using it. I decided to go back to use it and then was overwhelmed by a flood of messages from creepy Japanese people whose first question was where in Japan I live or telling me that they googled me and found out about my other accounts. CREEPY!! What's wrong with mixi? I thought it's a good option to pracitce my Japanese more, but just normal conversation is too easy now and I don't learn anything from it. Maybe I should ignore that account again. I won't delete it, though.

  • Ameblo: Pretty much the same as my Japanese blog here on LJ. Not really worth keeping. Probably will stop using it.

  • Lang-8: Obviously using it for practicing my Japanese and that's the one thing I'm not going to stop/delete. I want to update once a week, but most of the time I can't (-_-'')

  • Poupéegirl: The one thing I can't stop although it doesn't have to do with studying Japanese at all and it costs a lot of time and money, but it's sooo much fun!!! (*__*)v

  • MeroMeroPark: Similar online game as Poupéegirl, sotpped playing. Account inactive.

  • Twitter: daily updates (actually I don't think Twitter costs me any time - on the contrary it helps me not to forget about things I want to post in Livejournal later on and it's easier to just quickly post short updates - much better than to write an extra entry each time XD)

  • SmartFM: I used it a long time ago every day intensively (to study Japanese), but now my account is inactive and I'm not sure if I'll ever go back to using it.

  • Animexx: German anime community (although I check the website daily, I'm not active at all there XD)

  • and many many more that I haven't been using in ages, so ... I can't even remember now XD

I think that's it.
Gotta get rid of some of those accounts, I guess. *sigh*
What platforms are you using? How many accounts do you have? Are they all still active?

Speaking of Poupéegirl, here's my dress-up history (May/June)

People who read my Twitter might already know: I FINALLY watched Arashi's 最後の約束 ("Saigo no yakusoku" / The last promise) yesterday night (*__*)v
It was muuuuch better than I expected it to be. Although I'm a huge Jun fan, I still think he's not the best actor out of the 5, but he's so cool and cute and made me squee a few times in this drama special again (*__*)
I hade taken quite a few screencaps (mainly of Jun XD), but for some reason my computer decided to fuck up, so I had to get some from here (<- you might not wanna click if you haven't seen the movie/special yet, spoilers ahead!).
I modified the screencaps a bit (I still love playing with colors and it seems I didn't forgot how to yet...), no spoilers, so don't worry:

[Japan]: Chased by colds, police and dramas!
Hello,

just a short update. I've caught a cold a while ago and especially today it's really bad.
I went to see a doc on Wednesday. It's not the flu and I only have a very slight fever, but I feel like crap, even with strong medicine.
Luckily it's a week where I have Thursday, Friday and Sunday off.
Problem is that I have to work tomorrow as we have a Halloween special. I was looking forward to it soooo much, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to teach at all tomorrow.
I feel very dizzy and can barely walk, so how am I supposed to scream and jump around tomorrow? -__-
But as you know I don't get paid sick leave and I HAVE to go tomorrow *sigh* ..... I really don't know how to manage tomorrow, though!
Even typing this is kind of exhausting and I can barely do it.

[Japan]: No time, translating, cooking, green tea? SMILE! :D ... (o_O)>?!
Hello everybody,

First of all thank you very much for your comments to my last entry
I've been so freaking busy this whole week. I guess I'm still not used to work that lasts from Mo-Fr without a break C= (-。- ) フゥー
I know I shouldn't complain, that's your normal work schedule plus it's only every other week anyway, but I feel that I don't really have enough time for ANYTHING!
Yesterday I finally managed to finish another step in my Japanese studies, doing almost (see later) nothing but studying.
Today I won't have so much time to study as I have to clean my apartment, wash my laundry, answer e-mails, write entries etc.
It's amazing how fast time runs and you never have enough, huh? (And here it's September again! )
I was invited for lunch today by one of my Japanese coworkers, but I had to turn her down as I was way too busy. Such a shame :/

My usual day looks roughly like this: (~ means until in this case)
  • ~8:00am: getting up (I usually set my alarm clock around 7.50am, but in the end I can't get out of my bed before 8am, sometimes I even sleep until 9am *sigh*)

  • ~10:00/10:30am: after finally getting up I get ready for the day (brushing my teeth etc.), prepare my breakfast, eat my breakfast while browsing the internet (lj, news, japanese sites, e-mail etc.)

  • ~12:30pm: what happens now depends on what I need to do (laundry, shopping, cleaning, run errands of some other kind etc. and/OR study Japanese)

  • ~13.30pm: prepare and eat lunch while usually watching something on my laptop

  • ~14pm: getting ready for work which starts at 2pm

  • ~22:00pm: I come home from work, but I often can't leave at 22:00 and have to stay a little bit longer

  • ~0:30/1:00am: I browse the internet one more time (sometimes I have to wash my dishes at night, so I watch something on my laptop while doing so) / I watch a drama/anime and around 0:00am I go to bed to read some Japanese material (just started another novel last night)

Rant about not having enough time, work, translating and students who're being bullied )

Friday night I wanted to go to bed early so that I could get up early on Saturday to study, but then I got caught by the last few episodes of "Smile". I never write about the jdramas I watch anymore, huh?
Smile was horrible to watch and I almost wanted to stop watching it at some point, because it was so hard to watch and bear it. At least "1 litre of tears" warns you with its title, but you don't expect THAT from a drama with the title "Smile", right?
I'm not going to give you any major spoilers, so don't worry. I think the drama has at least ONE good thing, though. It's very self-critical about the Japanese society in general, but prejudices (against foreigners) in particular. I also hate the fact that Japan still has the death penalty!! I'm completely against it! And I heard prisoners often won't know their execution date until the morning of the actual day!!! (SPOILER FOR SMILE LAST EPISODE: and it was the same in Smile .... SPOILER END)

What about your country? Do you have death penalty and what do you think about it?
Jesus, I really should update my "watched jdramas" page (x_X) ....... *headdesk*

Regarding my last entry: I was not very lucky!
It seems it was on TV after all! On Thursday one of my Jr. high students told me. She didn't say much about it, just that she saw me, so I'm not sure if it was horrible or not. Good thing I didn't see it.
Ever since then I haven't heard anything about it anymore, so I just hope that the people who saw it will forget about it soon again.

Regarding the curtains I bought a while ago, I managed to send them back successfully.
Now it's time to look for another set of curtains. They should be thin and white or lightpink(?) to match the curtains I already have. The most important thing is that they are almost transparent so that I still can see what's going on outside.
Something like this, just cheaper. I'll let you know once I've decided what to buy in the end :D I hope this time I get the right ones ┐(-。ー;)┌ヤレヤレ

I cooked!! Yah, for REAL!!!! You don't believe me? ;__; ... )

[Liveblogging]: Maou - Episode 01
Good evening,

I rushed home from work like crazy XD ... my female Japanese coworkers were smiling because they knew WHY! XD
I only missed the first 2 minutes I think.
And here we go (excuse the randomness that's actually my first liveblogging ever (I think?! XD) ...)

OMMMGGG!! Toma is so sexy and manly! I have no words! This role fits him perfectly! KYAH!!

UWAH!!! Halfnaked Ohno! ... Oii~ is that fashion now? XDDD Showing hot boys halfnaked at the beginnig of a new drama? XDDDD (see yesterday's entry) .... I wanna see halfnaked Toma .. but then again, I can't watch the rest of the drama, because I'll faint XDDD

And I didn't know Ohno can have such an evil gaze!! Scary O____O''
WAAH ... Ohno really seems to hate Toma ;__________; He is sooo scary ... they'd make a great yaoi couple! XDDD Ahem~
... Everything already looks so interesting, exciting and HOT!!! Maybe this will be my fav drama this year! XDDD
.... or maybe I'm just blinded by Toma's hotness XD .....

Wow, the opening is great!!! And long!!! Seeing Toma and hearing an Arashi song, that's soo fitting. For me Toma and Arashi belong kind of together anyway (MAIN etc.)
By the way some people said they can't really imagine Ohno and Toma being in the same drama .... ever seen West Side Story? ^^; ....

HOMG HOMG!!! NINOOOOOOOOOOOO is in there, too!!!! *spazzes* (just saw it in the preview before the commercial)

I love Toma's hairstyle in this drama. WAH Is Toma smoking in there? O_O ... Well fits his role I guess ...

I tried to only fangirl and not write so much about the story, but if you want to avoid spoilers, then go away! Then again it's only the 1st episode ... there are no real spoilers anyway ^^; ... )

TEH END.

I really have to download the eps with subs as soon as possible (*_______-)V

All I can say is ... WATCH THIS DRAMA AND FORGET ABOUT ALL THE OTHER DRAMAS!!!! <3

[Drama]: Live: Code Blue
Good evening everybody,

right now I'm watching the first episode of " コード・ブルー" (Code Blue), a new drama with Yamapi and Toda Erika (^____^)v
I don't want to spoil you, BUT the first thing you'll see is half-naked Yamapi, so .... my first thought was: this MUST be a good drama! XDDDDD

So far it seems to be quite interesting, although I'm not really into hospital series (apart from Grey's Anatomy).
As today was my day off I could watch it right from the start, but actually (as you might have guessed XD) I'm rather looking forward to Maou - Toma's new drama which will start tomorrow!!! ε=ε=(/*~▽)/キャー
I won't be able to watch it from the start, as I have to work until 10pm, BUT of course I'll have a look at it. I doubt I'll watch the whole episode, because I really wanna understand what's going on and what they're saying, so I guess I'll be waiting for subs (and I don't have time to watch the drama twice: on tv AND on my laptop with subs ^^; .....)
Maybe (meaning: if I don't faint and/or if I have time! XD) there'll be a fangirl post tomorrow, because it looks like Toma's SUPER HOT in this one キャー ヾ(≧∇≦*)〃.... ahem~

Here are some (crappy) photo/screens of Code Blue which is still airing right now (^-^)/

I don't know yet if I like Yamapi's new curly hairstyle or not XD And yes curls are in right now XDD

+4 )

I might be lucky to be able to watch jdramas now RIGHT away, but on the other hand I sometimes prefer to wait until I have the whole series .... for example: I was SO GLAD that I waited for Last Friends and only watched like 10 minutes on tv every week, because it was soo damn exciting that I wouldn't have wanted to wait for new eps to come out! XDDDDD

I know these posts are kind of boring for most of you, but actually I enjoy posting them a lot! XD

[Japan]: Oh, rainy Sundays <3
Good evening (or whatever time it is where you live)!

I just realized that it's already the end of JUNE!! J.U.N.E.!!! I mean .... I just came here, right? No! Already 4 months passed since then and I know I repeat myself by saying that time definitely runs too fast! *sigh*
Rainy season is still at its best here and so it's another rainy Sunday, but that's okay! I enjoy being lazy today, which basically means I use me free time to study as much Japanese as I can and watch a little bit of German stuff as well as Japanese stuff.
Not to mention that I had to clean up my apartment and all, too XDDD That's why rainy days are good :D - from time to time that is!

It's still very strange for me that even though it's raining so much, it's still soooo damn humid! Usually I'm a person who doesn't sweat at all, but the Japanese climate is really something I tell you! At least for me as someone who usually lives in Germany. Our summers and warm days are limited and when it gets too humid, we have a nice, heavy thunder and lightning spectacle with tons of rain and after that, nice FRESH air!!! Not so here in Japan *melts*
I'm not complaining, I'm just telling you that this kind of weather is new to me and I think it's interesting. I might suffer in August, though XD ... I don't want to imagine how it is when it's REALLY hot here ;)

Of course "thanks" to the heat there are tons of mosquitos here and everywhere (T_____T) ...... most of the time I manage to keep them out of my apartment, but as soon as you got somewhere outside, they'll eat you alive (T___T)
Now .... I come from a very rural area of Germany and am .... at least I thought so ... used to various kinds of mosquitos .... but what's going on .... or rather crawling and flying around here is really .... AMAZING!! Just ewww!!!
They do have quite a lot of mosquitos that seem to be dangerous, too! To mention only one: スズメバチ (>____>'') ......

"It can't always rain."

As for TEH loud bitch: Has a long story finally come to an end?
After my last entry my boss once again phoned the apartment management. They just laughed it off, so my boss stayed firm and tried to convince them, that it's not funny anymore.
They finally took action after that. It seems that up until then they didn't even inform her parents!!! So no wonder she didn't react at all! I think it was mainly a communication problem, but I'm not sure.
Anyway the thing is that one of her friends who is always joining her parties lives exactly one floor above, so of course she wouldn't complain about the noise as she herself is part of it! All the more both of them said that they turned down the volume after 12am that night, HAHA! As if!!!
And now the best of all!!!!! They talked to TEH bitch directly, too, and she started to cry and said she was afraid when I was banging against the wall. UHHHM ... yes, ..... of COURSE!! Then why the hell was she never reacting to my banging and why the hell were all of them laughing when they heard me banging against the wall?
I guess she wanted to play the innocent Japanese girl that's dissed by TEH EVIL FOREIGNER that has nothing better to do than banging against her wall in the middle of the night *headshakes* .... HOW BITCHY CAN A BITCH BE???? Seriously, there is something wrong with that girl.
Anyway .... thing is that the apartment next to her (the one on the other side) is empty (so no wonder nobody was complaining!) .... and they asked her to move there! It's only next door, but 1 apartment farther away from me! With 1 more wall and 1 apartment in between us she can't her my banging anymore (*giga-rofl*) and I shouldn't be able to hear her shit anymore.
Now .... ever since then she has been super-quiet and I thought if it's going to be like that, she can stay! It seems she finally got it! ...... but then she moved out and next door this weekend! Of course I'm happy about that, BUT at the same time totally afraid of who will move in next door after her. Of course it won't be right away, but what if it's another university student? This appartment complex seems to be full of university students! What if it's one of her friends? What if that person is even louder than her (if that's even possible ....)?
I think a second time the apartment management won't help me anymore and I'll be the one who has to move out then. *sigh* .... So for the time being the problem is solved, but I live in .... fear of who might move in next (T__________T) ..... maaah, doesn't help if I worry now anyway ...

Reason: As you know I´m currently pretty busy. Most of these icons were lying around FOREVER and I just can´t find the time to finish this batch. That´s why I´ve decided to just upload this ..... incomplete icon batch - I hope you like it nevertheless.
And that´s also why there are so many random icons (^^'')

And please remember to CREDIT if you snag something! I have my username included in the files, so there´s NO reason for not knowing where it came from!
And if I ever catch those stupid people that are just randomly uploading other people´s icons in a zip-file, I´ll kill them for sure!! (T__T)

Enjoy~

[Review // Recommendation]: Hot Gimmick (manga) + Engine (jdrama) + random fangirling (*_*)
Hey f-list!

I have 2 recommendations for you.
First is Hot Gimmick (ホットギミック) - a shoujo manga.

If you love HANA YORI DANGO then you will DEFINITELY love this one as well!!!

I´ve started to read this manga YEARS ago - back then you always had to wait for new scanlations too long and then it was stalled, so I gave up and waited for it to be released here in Germany.
Somehow I forgot about it and just recently discovered that there are FINALLY scanlations for the last few volumes as well.
I still could remember how much I loved that manga and started to read it again - this time till the end (^____^')v

WARNING perhaps not worksafe content!!

This picture shows exactly what this series is about - me thinks! (^3^) )

Okay, next. I want to recommend (well sort of) a jdrama I just started (!) to watch. Somehow I fell in love with it right away. I guess it´s stupid to recommend s.th. you haven´t watched to the end yet, but ... well I´ll just tell you a bit about it and then you can decide for yourself if it sounds worth watching or not, k? (^__^;)
I´m talking about another Kimura Takuya drama: Engine.
Yumi-chan recommended this drama to me over a year ago and somehow I was ignoring it .... *lol* .. but I´m glad that I´m finally watching it now (^-^;)

A racer that HATES kids and a lot of familiar faces??!! = LOVE! )

Attention, attention. Alert, alert! Random fangirling ahead!!! Please run away as fast as possible! Alert, alert!!

Ooookay .... this is about Bleach (episode 110) - but there are no spoilers, so if you want to you can have a look at it ;P
Usually I´m more a fan of Ichigo, Renji or Hitsugaya, but HOW CAN I IGNORE THIS "$%"$%"$"§???!!!!!

I want this guy, right now, right here! ... ahhr .. XD )

Okay ... that was long again.
Hope you survived? (^^;)
Bye-cha!
