[Anime Review]: Watashi ga motete dousunda

Okay, this is going to be a "quickie".
I promised that I try to update more regularly about anime I've watched. But often I end up not doing it, only posting a way too large list entry in the end.
And about some of my absolute favorite series I still haven't written at all. This sucks. XD

Today I want to talk about a series that some of you might have already heard about.
It's mainly for you "fujoshi" out there, but it's so hilarious that you might enjoy it even if you're not into BL.

The series is called "Watashi ga motete dousunda" (私がモテてどうすんだ) - literally something like "What good does it do if I'm popular???"
The very fitting English title is "Kiss him, not me" - and it expresses the content of the series pretty well.

To be honest the series reminded me a LOT of "Love Stage".
Not only the humor and the "pop colors", but also the drawing style as well as the multi-colored eyes of some characters.
And how many series are there where you have a shut-in otaku who's depressed because of something and then big brother kicks open the door to get 'em out??? So "Love Stage" XD ....
So, I think you might like this series if you enjoyed "Love Stage" ....

... although the genre is not the same. "Kiss him, not me" is NOT a BL series (even though the main character wants it to be one *ggg*).
If I had to classify it is would be a parody / reversed harem / wanna-be BL series? ;P

The story is quite simple.
If you're looking for something meaningful, you're completely wrong here.
This series simply wants to entertain!
There are also a LOT of insiders - even mentioning OLDER series - which makes the series even more fun to watch.

OMG! Captain Tsubasa insider!! (*__*)b

Attack on Titan insider!!! (^____^)/~

So, anways, the story:
Kae Serinuma is a normal (?) high school girl, but she has a dark secret. She's a fujoshi (girl who is into BL) through and through.
And she's also a debu (fatty), so naturally she's not popular among the boys.

But that's TOTALLY fine, because all she wants is to drool all over possible shippings of the ikemen around her. *giggles*

However, one day her favorite anime character dies and she shuts herself in for days (until her big brother kicks her door open to drag her out XD ...).
But ...... what's that? Suddenly everyone is screaming? Why? ...

... Well ... that's because Kae suddenly lost a LOT of weight (being depressed and shut in...) ... and it appears she's quite the hot girl!

Back in school she suddenly is extremely popular.

And the guys she was shipping are now interested in HER!
What a horrible thing to happen! Fujoshi Hell! XD ....

Now, all those guys want to hang out with her ... and she tries her best to stay in "otome" mode and act like a normal girl .... but her otaku side is just so much stronger! XD ....

On a date with some hot guys and all you can think about is how cute those guys look together and OMG he's sleeping on his shoulder, squeeee? ... Welcome to the fujoshi world! XD ....

That's pretty much the story.
Throughout the series more characters pop up who are also into Kae.

She meets a fujoshi fellow who's quite the tomboy. But she's also the doujinshika of her favorite doujinshi.
Naturally they become very close .... too close? Yeah ... there's also a bit yuri going on. To be honest I could have done without that part, but we also get a LOT of funny scenes because of that.

The guys are always at awe how scary fujoshi can become.
That comes especially evident when one day the two fujoshi start fighting severely although they're into the same shipping. BUT they're not on one page when it comes to the uke / seme part and that's where war starts.

At least the guys are not even surprised anymore when they find her huge doujinshi collection.

This series is so hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing.
I enjoyed especially the first half. The latter half becomes a bit repetitive.

It's a short, entertaining series, so you have nothing to lose.
Enjoy! ^____^

Because it was so entertaining I rated it: 7/10

Side note: With reversed harem you always should choose your favorite. For me, that wasn't difficult at all. NANA all the way!
Not only is he into soccer, but he's also the kabe-don type (WTF? LOL!). And at the same time he has such a kind side when he takes care of his little sister. *g*

So, how did you like the series?
Was it entertaining?
Who would you have chosen in the end? Or are you a fujoshi through and through?

Story of my life lol. More or less my first year here, in a nut shell (Minus the BL part.) I wouldn't be able to chose.

Haha, but BL is the best part!! JK! ;P

Yeah, indeed. Your life is a reversed harem! XD There are worse things that could happen.
I'm envious! But I also know that it can be annoying and stressful to the point where you think:
"You gotta be kidding me?!"

yeah, I liked her XDD and the two could do Doujinshi and Cosplay together, and most importantly, drool over the boys. Just make the boys play out their fantasies again, it worked so well until then XDD
(So I'm quite happy with the end)

Haha, yeah, but it's more fun if they do it as just friends in my eyes.
And I agree, the end just HAD to be like that. ;P

I watched the first half and it was enjoyable, but like you said, the second half gets repetitive, and next to Yuri on Ice it was just reaaaaalllllly ordinary. I never finished it, haha! I liked her as a fujoshi, but all of the guys were lame to me.

Those two series cannot be compared at all.
If I only watch sport series, it becomes boring. So, I quite enjoy if there are "light", enjoyable series like "Kiss him, not me". I don't even try to compare them to other series.

But glad you enjoyed the first half! ^____^

Oh! I saw the manga in German and thought that sounds nice! But if there's an anime I definitely have to watch it. Sounds like fun and I can need some fun right now ;)
