TeH worms counterattack! (T__T) + Meme

Okay,

first of all thanks to all of you for your comments and your concerns!
A lot of people kept asking the same questions, that´s why I want to make another "worm entry" to clarify things ^^

1) Where do those monsters come from? How do they get into your food? Where do you live anyway?

Those worms are actually the larvas of food moths. They are pretty common and it can happen to ANYONE! That´s why I want to warn you, it can happen to you as well. I will also be super-cautious from now on!
Usually you buy the eggs or even the larvas with your food. They are especially in cereals, noodles and rice (esp. bio products)!
So the first important thing is that you have a look at what you buy! If you find small wholes (grub traces) or if you see small webs inside of the food: DON´T BUY IT!!! The food is contaminated.
But usually you buy food with eggs in it, so you don´t see anything. That´s why it´s important to seal all of your food up properly. And I mean EVERYTHING! Don´t let anything lie around.
They can eat through plastic and carton, that´s not a problem. They can even crawl in some tupperware containers without any effort!
Another good tip is to put everything you buy in the freezer at first. If you leave it there for at least 24hours, the eggs or larvas will die for sure.

So how did the larvas enter my kitchen?

I prolly bought them with my bio cereals. From there they ate through the plastic wrapping and found their way to other food.
You see: It can happen to everyone. WHO does seal up all the food they have anyway???
But I will do so from now on.

I do live in Germany. It´s FUCKING cold here right now, so it has nothing to do with season or heat or whatever. It has also nothing to do with hygiene!!!
Those moths are something natural and thus are in food.

2) What can you do to get rid of them?

Well, if you find the larvas in your food or crawling around in your ktichen, then throw away EVERYTHING you have in your kitchen. All the food - throw it away immediately.
If you´ve looked into your rice or whatever and are sure there are no larvas, you can put it into the freezer to kill the eggs (because you don´t know if there are some or not, you can´t see them!).
Then clean your kitchen. First vacuum EVERYTHING! Those larvas tend to hide in boreholes etc. They then pupate and after ~10days moths will be born.
One female moth can lay ~200 eggs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .... which means 200 more larvas! From only ONE moth!!!!!!!
So vacuum everything. Then use a hair dryer for some minutes, those larvas don´t like the heat and some of them might die. AFTER that clean everything with vinegar or spirit water.
(Don´t clean before vacuuming, you only will move the eggs in edges you can´t reach anymore).
Then clean everything else you have in your kitchen! We had some teddybears there for example. We burned one and the others were put in the freezer as well ..... (remember the eggs can be everywhere! people told me that they found a nest in a cigarette box.)
Wash all of your dishes very hot or put it into the dish washer.
Just clean everything you can! Everything else should be put into the freezer (or outside at night, if it´s as cold as here, ~-10°C right now).
Then use moths decoys! There are good ones with pheromones. They will attract the male moths.

3) And did you get rid of them?

No, not yet. Although we REALLY cleaned out the whole kitchen and did everything I said before. There are still some larvas crawling around.
But it´s only natural they can hide EVERYWHERE and we have a built-in kitchen, so we can´t reach EVERYTHING there ... *sigh*
But I´ve sealed up all of my (new bought) food now and put the rest into the refrigerator. They have nothing to eat anymore.
My theory is that I´ve bought them with my bio cereals and that was not too long ago. So we don´t have any moths right now which is good - only the larvas ... but they are crawling up the walls right now which is a sign for them wanting to pupate -___-
and if they do, we WILL have moths who will lay 2342542342423 eggs.
BUT!!!! There´s hope!!!!
We will buy ichneumon flies now!!!!! They will eat all the larvas/eggs of the food moths.
They are companion animals. As soon as they´ve eaten all of the larvas and there´s no more food for them, they will either go somewhere else or just die.
They won´t affect us humans or our food and they are veeeeeeeeeeery tiny ^^ .... (They´re name in German is "Schlupfwespe", Wespe means wasp, so I was like HOMG HELL NO! at first, because I hate, hate, HATE wasps! But they have nothing in common. They can´t bite or sting you ^^)
A lot of people recommended those animals to me, because they got rid of all the larvas with them.
And I think it´s the only solution. Only other small animals can detect those small monsters, no? ^^

4) So did you have any health problems because of them?

No, I don´t think so. I still feel disgusted and spend a lot of time staring at my food to control that there are not "Wurmlis" (how I call them from now on XD ... English version would prolly be: wormli?! XD).
But remember NOT to eat contaminated food! Those larvas can cause allergies, gastric diseases and stuff. Furthermore they are often infected with mites and stuff!!!

Okay, let´s do s.th. fun now XD
I´ve found this one @ [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_hoshi´s journal and it´s really fun:
