[Japan]: Being sick in summer sucks! (;o;)

I'm sick! .......... AGAIN!

I think I haven't written about it yet. I was sick at the beginning of this month (Twitter users might remember).
I suddenly got a high fever. Only that! Fever with no other symptoms! That was quite scary! Normally you have the flu, a cold, some kind of infection (that hurts somewhere), a stomach flu etc. PLUS fever. But only fever???
And it also got higher and higher every other hour. The next day a coworker drove me to the hospital (because I couldn't go by bike in my condition).
They checked my blood and made (yet another!!) x-ray of my chest.
The doctor said that one of my tonsils is swollen and kind of white. They wanted to keep me there for an hour to give me a drop infusion, but I refused (too expensive!). They told me if I drink a lot of energy drinks (with lots of electrolytes?), I should be fine. Furthermore I was told to rest and lie in bed the whole day. "Luckily" that happened on my days off, so I spent those 2 days in bed .... although there was so much stuff I had to take care of (laptop issues, planning my summer trip aka reserving hotels etc.).
They gave me the usual "cold medicine" which is a disgusting white powder - and everybody who has been sick here in Japan knows what I'm talking about! And also a really strong med that was supposed to lower my fever (it did, but it also made me throw up as that was one of the side effects).
After my 2 days in bed, I was fit enough to go to work the next day.

Fast forward.
2 weeks later. Again, finally reached my days off - when I wanted to do so many things I couldn't do 2 weeks ago (because I was sick) and last week (because I had to clean up, do my laundry etc.).
And what happens? I'm sick again. Fever again, but this time it's clearly a cold or the flu! I barely can breathe, my nose, throat, head, eyes hurt like hell.
I still had meds left from 2 weeks ago, and also I spent my days off mostly in bed again, it didn't really cure my cold at all. I went to work yesterday (I've never ever missed a day of work so far no matter how shitty I felt!!) - but that wasn't a good idea! After 7h of work (so 1 hour too early) I had to go home. Actually a coworker had to drive me home, because I wasn't sure if I had enough strength to drive home safely on my bike....
Took some more medicine and went to sleep.

Luckily today is Sunday, but I'm still feeling not well at all! Not sure if I can/should go to work tomorrow. I can barely use my voice! If it's just desk work, then okay, but I doooo have to use my voice, so ....
But like I said, I've never missed a day of work so far! (and I don't get paid if I don't go!)
Have yet to see how I'll feel tomorrow.

And what's more, today was supposed to be a huge "otsukaresama"(=good work!)-BBQ and of course I couldn't join :( :(
I was looking forward to it sooooo~ much!!! *cries* And the weather is great today, too!!!
We all deserved this BBQ so much. And now I don't get any of the good food. Not fair! :/
Also, I wasn't able to do the things that need to be done. Reserve some more things for summer vacation etc.
This sucks so much!!!

Photo: My new best friends! Stuff I'm taking right now. There's also the infamous powder medicine! It makes you extremely sleepy and you'll get it no matter WHAT you have! Even if it's not a cold! XDDD

Why does one get sick in summer anyways???
And why TWICE in such a short time???
That's not normal! I wonder what's wrong! :/
All my coworkers seem to be fine. A lot of students are sick right now, though. And that's probably where I got it from.
I definitely get sick more often since I live in Japan.
Reasons:
a) I'm a teacher. Most teachers get sick more often, just because they get in touch with lots of bacteria every day. Especially if you teach small kids who don't care about hygiene at all!
b) I live in a foreign country. Most of us have been sick more easily as kids. Here in Japan it's a reset for your body!! He has to fight brandnew bacteria and all! Japanese virus =/= European virus.
c) I do eat partly healthy (= fresh fruit and vegetables every day), but I don't do ANY sports!

It could be the weather as well. It's sooo humid, so you sweat like hell. Your hair, your clothes, your bra, everything is wet. Then you finally get to work or any other building and a very cool wind from the AC greets you. ThE kIlLeR!!!!
Then again, it's been like that the last few years, too, and I've never gotten sick because of it!!! Hmmmm.

Being sick in summer sucks.
Being sick when there are so many things to do sucks.
Being sick when you have a bitchy laptop that doesn't let you watch things when all you want is to lie down and slowly fall asleep while watching something.
Being sick when you live all alone in a foreing country and having nobody who could take care of you sucks a loooot!!!

Random: They checked the electricity in our apartment building this week and they also handed out a pamphlet with instructions how to keep your household safe (when it comes to electricity).
As you can see it's quite cute!! Japan just can't live without having cute description and pics/signs for everything, huh?

So, there is not much to write about lately, because all I do is lying in bed, being sick! :/
There are some things I want to tell you guys, but I guess that has to wait until I'm fit again (x___X)

I hope you guys are okay???!!!!
Waiting for dinner time, eating something, taking meds and then I'll crawl back into my bed (x_X) ...

WOOOOO, I hate summer, too~ :/

I hope you'll get well soon~! <3

[identity profile] ohmynews.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dear I empathize with you! Its awful to be alone when you're sick!

It seems like you dont like summer very much in Japan! Have to deal with ALL KINDS of bugs (insects AND GERMS!!!!!)

DO take care!! Drink lots of fluids!!

[identity profile] shinorin.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry für die säte Antwort ;o;
Klar darfst du :D

[identity profile] kanefunnn.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's a shame...(ノω;`)

Does not heat still fall? If so, I think you may want to have an intravenous drip in hospital.

I hope you get better soon! Please take a very good care of yourself.

[identity profile] kitsune-no-ame.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah crap D: Get well soon.
Lol "lots of energy drinks"- No doctor in Europe would say such a thing xD" Japan has a weird obsession with energy drinks...

[identity profile] kevinsensei.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
If you were around here, I'd take care of you! :)

I hope you're feeling better!

[identity profile] roxie-07.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry that you're sick T___T. Feel better soon friend!!!

[identity profile] betterinorange.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Normally I just lurk but the part about being alone in a foreign country when you're sick struck a chord with me, since I was recently sick (not in a foreign country) and I was apprehensive to be alone just for a weekend. Just know that people are thinking of you! And I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd bring you soup if it were possible. I hope you get better really soon.

[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, thanks so much!! :3

[identity profile] leviosa8.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It does suck indeed! : ( Take lots of care and get well soon. And for good!

[identity profile] hiromisky.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It does sucks!
Last summer I was also sick, it was terrible because I had to be in bed instead of hanging outside with my friends. The only good thing was that my doctor told me to eat ice-cream for my troath.

I hope you get well soon!

[identity profile] bunny-alice.livejournal.com 2010-07-19 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
ooohh... being ill in summer REALLY sucks... and being ill and alone in a foreing country must be hell!! HOPE YOU GET WELL SOON!

[identity profile] isamunee.livejournal.com 2010-07-19 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
:'( That's really unlucky! I hope you get better soon, and don't get sick again!

Dankööö! ;o;

[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] celestica.livejournal.com 2010-07-19 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I hardly get sick this is due to having cold showers XD nearly every day now during the summer. I eat more junk than you do, and still feel great :). But I hope you'll get well by today or tomorrow? ♥;

[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
My skin would kill me if I'd do that *g*
And last summer we didn't have running water / so no showers anyways :/
Thanks *hugs*

[identity profile] asahifirsa.livejournal.com 2010-07-19 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] hejjhog.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been away from the web for a few days, so I really hope you're better by now!

[identity profile] pearlsphere.livejournal.com 2010-07-21 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
*raises hand* I'm okaaaaaaay :D. I was also sick for like a week and only two months after my last cold ;_;, not pretty. What an annoying side effect, huh? I hate throwing up! Getting sick so many times is definitely not good but as you said you're a teacher so you're more exposed but could it be also stress? Stress doesn't make things any better :/.
Lol, cute pamphlet, lol Japan :D

[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, 2 months between being sick is normal, but ONE WEEK???? -___-;
Glad to hear you're okay now *hugs*
I don't think it was stress, though. But what do I know, right? :D

[identity profile] amvn.livejournal.com 2010-07-21 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Again??!! Ouch, sounds terrible >_< I really hope you get better soon, and it's a bummer you had to miss the bbq that you looked so much forward to. But yeah, it's surely some of the combinations of living in a foreign country, and of course, the weather as well. Anyways, hope you'll feel better soon *hugs* :)

[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I know. And it's horrible to have a cold when it's sooooooooo hot! (x_X)
Thanks *hugs* :D

[identity profile] wing-goddessxxx.livejournal.com 2010-07-21 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you feel better very soon! You need to add Toma to your medicine!!!

[identity profile] getoutofmyband.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh I'm sick too! I've never had a cold in summer before moving to Japan too! I'm thinking it's the temperature difference between inside apaato/malls/train and outside. According to my thermomether outside = almost 40C and inside = 19-20C =___=;

odaijini to you & i!

[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure. Actually in my apartment it's always around 29/30°C! Outside, I have no clue and I don't really wanna know XD
How do you get your apartment so cold???
I think at work it's more like 25°C :)
Take care!!!!
I still have a slight fever after SEVEN days. Not funny anymore. Might have to go to the hospital again :/

[identity profile] getoutofmyband.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know.. I live in a mansion with friends and there are 2 big aircons in here... I guess they must be really powerful! o_O;

[identity profile] getoutofmyband.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
My room used to be a children's room. I think it's about 5 or 5.5 tatamis but there is an aircon in there so it can get really cold. The other one is in the living room/kitchen.

Take care too! <3
