Amestris is basically intended as an alternate Germany during that time period. Sorry if you don't like it, but it's true.

It´s not that I don´t like it. I just REALLY never have realized that Amestris had so much similarities with WWII o___o;; .... Maybe because I wasn´t really paying attention at the military´s actions, but more what Al and Ed did .... and the Homunculus .. and so :/ ....
