[Japan Life]: Spring Vacation, Wii, Tripod

It seems it was raining almost everywhere in Japan today?! I couldn't do my laundry because it was only nice when I had to work, but kept raining or snowing on my days off recently. (-_-)
I wanted to go out for a walk again, but if the weather is THAT bad, I rather stay inside

Just some random updates.
I finally finished planning my spring vacation (which is in about 3 weeks from now! wow! )
This time I'll visit Takamatsu/Marugame/Kotohira (Kagawa), Kurashiki/Takahashi/Tsuyama (Okayama), Tottori Pref. and Matsue (Shimane). As you can see it's not as crazy as my winter vacation.
I've been in Okayama in spring 2 years ago, but not in the areas I'll visit this time! Everywhere else I haven't been before!!
I still want to visit some more parts of Kyushu (Kirishima, Miyazaki, Yakushima) so badly, but I can never seem to find the right timing!! Winter and summer don't seem to be the best time to go. I think between spring and summer or summer and autumn would be best, but as I have never more than 2 consecutive days off, it's almost impossible!
Wakayama and Fukui Prefecture still have to wait as well as almost everything beyond Tokyo (Tohoku / Hokkaido). Still so much to do and to see!!!
I want to slap myself for not knowing about the JR-West Railpass last year or 2 years ago. Would have saved me a lot of money! This time it's probably not worth the money. The Seishun ticket will probably not pay off either, but I have to calculate again to be sure

It's scary after my knees, my face is next!!! It's like the second I turned 30 my body decided to start falling apart! .....
Now, I don't only have to go visit a orthopedist, but also a dermatologist! *sigh*
I'm not exactly sure what's wrong, I have some pimples on my cheeks/nose/chin, but my cheeks also seem to be red and strange. I have to admit that I had a bit of stress in the last few weeks and I also have my period right now, but it's the first time that I have problems like this.
I researched and found something called "Acne Tarda" - which seems to be a form of acne that starts at the age of 30-40! HOMG!! I hope it's not that!

I already have no confidence at all anymore anyways, this would kill the tiny rest completely, I guess. *mumbles* guess that's what Japan turns you into .... a tiny grey shy mouse with no confidence ... I mean I can't even remember when I last had a boyfriend (<- liar!) and here in Japan all Western men are only interested in Asian women and all Japanese guys DO stare (but just like all Japanese kids, old people, women) - they are not really interested or too afraid of Western women ... [/self-pity]

Right now I'm trying to not stress out about it because I'm sure that would make it only worse! I don't think it's any of the cosmetic products that I use because I haven't changed those, I haven't eaten anything strange, I haven't used any new towels or anything .... must be my hormones, I guess.

I want to buy a tripod for my DSLR (FINALLY!!!) - but I have no clue WHICH ONE or how to decide!!
For now I don't want to spend tooooo much money. As I mainly will use it while travelling it should be light (max. 1kg) and compact, but also when set up fully have quite a good height (eye height would be perfect). I know that there's probably no tripod that matches all thes requirements, but if you know any that would get even close, please let me know!!! Slik seems to be a good brand and it's also available here in Japan.
If possible I'd love to get one soon, so I can still practice a bit with it before my spring vacation starts!

Project: get social and get to know more people is slowly progressing
I'll hopefully meet up with [livejournal.com profile] kanefunnn in Osaka when I go visit Toma's butais and thanks to somebody here on LJ () I also got in contact with a Japanese who lives quite close to my city.
Once I'm back from my spring vacation new courses in the community center will start as well and I'll join AT LEAST one of them (though like I already mentioned before, the one I was most interested in was already full and I'm still on the waiting list).
I'm still looking for gyms. One doesn't look too bad (only 1 train station away), but almost 9000yen/month???? That's crazy isn't it???!!!!! I wouldn't use it every day anyways (probably more like once a week or so ... they have a 90min/day plan where you "only" pay like 6000yen/month, though) ....
Anyways as my body seems to fall apart, I think I really should start doing something NOW!! Not necessarily a fitness club. I love dancing and am looking into dancing schools in the area, but I also want to do something I can do at home (maybe while watching TV). Anybody here does any exercises at home (where you wouldn't need any or a lot of equipment!) or anything and can give me some suggestions please??

While thinking about it I saw a commercial for Wii "Just Dance" on TV and I suddenly thought it might be a good idea to purchase a Wii.
There are several problems, though. My apartment is EXTREMELY small. It's a Japanese Wii and Japanese games which I can't use once back in Germany. This is not only about regional codes, but also about electricity (even the plug connectors wouldn't fit!!! voltage is different etc.)
It's probably a waste of money. Anyways, what do you guys think? Worth buying for what I want to do with it?
Maybe I should find out if it's possible to rent the Wii + games somewhere and try it out first. I know it's possible in Germany, so it SHOULD be possible here in Japan, ne?! (^-^'') .....
I'm not a gamer at all, so I would only be interested in Wii Fit, Just Dance and stuff like that ^^;; ...

Today I was able to check quite a few things on my to-do-list, but it still doesn't seem to get less. This is really frustrating.
Days just pass by and it seems like I just don't get things done. I really need to do something about that. I can't remember when I just sat down the last time and watched a drama or a movie. Just sitting down and relax while watching something!
I don't think I'm extremely busy. Maybe I just want toooo many things at the same time?! I have no clue :/
ARGH!!! And I haven't even returned to my Japanese studies yet!! This is ridiculous!! What the hell keeps me so busy? I even slept less this whole week in order to get things done (maybe also one reason for my skin problem ..)

Believe it or not, that's it for today. No photos, but a lot of ranting.
Thanks for reading and if you have any suggestions or recommendation on any of these random topics, I would be VERY grateful!!!

*headdesk* Ich glaub echt, dass ich alt werde!!! Ich dachte nicht, dass das das gleiche ist wie DER "Rail-Pass" und daher dachte ich auch, dass man den so wie das Seishun Ticket ganz normal in Japan kaufen kann ... auch als Nicht-Tourist. Hab jetzt grade nochmal nachgelesen und du hattest recht. Naja das spart mir dann wenigstens das nachrechnen XDDDD *headdesk*³²³²³²³²³

EEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;_____________;
I really need to move, I guess XD
As I was planning my spring vacation I got to see the current weather in various places and I also checked out a livecam in Yamanashi which is not too far away from Tokyo. It was everywhere cloudy and rainy!
Lucky Tokyo! ^-^

Muss also irgendwie ein gutes Zwischending finden :/
Manfrotto scheint sehr beliebt zu sein.

Danke für den Tipp!! ^-^

I went to Yakushima and Miyazaki last year in spring, and it seemed like a really good time to go. If you do go to Yakushima though I would definitely recommend renting a car once you get there (if you can drive?) because public transportation isn't so great.
I bet it would be a nice place to go in Autumn!

I hope you can go, Yakushima is the best place that I've visited in Japan so far, even though it rained 90% of the time that we were there. Hehe.

I don't have a driver's license for Japan and I don't really wanna drive here :/
Thanks for the recommendation, though ^-^

Du könntest dir hier in Dtl. dann immer noch einen Transformater etc organiseren - oder einfach in Japan an ALTs oder so verkaufen ^^;;;

Vorher mal testen klingt sehr sinnig.

And I work on that Saturday, too, so I only have a day off on Sunday (22nd)! ;o;

afaik, you can't get the rail pass anyway because you live in Japan. It's only for tourists. (They will check the visa in your passport.)

My gym costs about 9000 a month too. Welcome to Japan, lol. For home exercises, you could try Pilates or Yoga. I know people who have done both and were pleased with the results.

I know. The person in the first comment already mentioned it (it was in German though).
I didn't know that. I thought it's different from the "normal" railpass.

That's ridiculous!! ;o; ..... I can't afford that much, esp. because all gyms are quite far away, so I wouldn't be able to use them THAT often anyways :/
I know. I'm looking into various things ATM :) Maybe I'll restart Karate.

it's raining in Brooklyn, too. I went on a long (ish, at least in terms of time, not so much distance) bus trip to get the new Pokemon DS game with my son. But it's probably not so new in Japan.

Hmmm, I think acnes/breakouts are mostly hormonal. Mine went away while I was pregnant and then came back afterward and I used Pro Activ which is widely available in in the US, I don't know about elsewhere. But here's the site: http://www.proactiv.com/

It worked really well for me. The older I get the more people tell me what great skin I have. But it was hell beforehand.

"Just Dance" is fun and makes you feel tired, but it's not *really* a workout. You end up moving a lot less than the characters on the screen, because you don't know what to do! :P Wii Fit is kinda fun, but I got bored of it quickly. But the cool thing about that is that it has workouts for a variety of things - it has yoga too! I would recommend pilates or yoga DVDs... they also sell body dance DVDs too! Like bellydancing or hip-hop or just fun dancing! If you can't find them locally, I'd suggest amazon.

I'm sorry that western men only want Asian women. I joke with my boyfriend that I don't want us to vacation in Japan because he'd leave me for a Japanese woman! ..Although I'd probably leave HIM for a Japanese woman too! XD Are you not interested in Japanese men, or are they not interested in you? I'm not sure the cultural aspects of Asian men dating Western women (beyond "flings").

(Reply) (Thread) (Link)
[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com on March 10th, 2011 08:24 am (UTC)
I see. I wonder if it's possible to download those from somewhere as I'm not sure how common those DVDs are in Japan, but this is a GREAT idea, I'm looking into it right now!! ^____^ Thanks :D

I'm interested in them in general, but not for a longterm relationship unless they went abroad for a few years, because the culture gap is just too big. I hope this doesn't sound mean, if I had more time I could elaborate what exactly I mean, but maybe you understand.
I think they are not interested in me, but honestly I don't care anymore. My days here in Japan are almost over. I don't know yet how much longer I'll stay here, but surely not for 5 or more years, so I guess that's that XD
Most foreign women I know who are dating a Japanese men have bfs who studied abroad for some time or have left Japan for some time. It makes a HUGE difference, believe me!

Yay!!! Yeah, I thought they might be hard to just buy from the store, but I thought maybe from the internet or download...! They are REALLY fun, and since they're made to do at home, you usually don't need A LOT of space. :D

That totally makes sense! I guessed that the culture gap might be too big, but I had to confirm (*_*) That does suck though. I mean, I guess when you leave you can look at it as, "I gave up social relationships for a few years to experience SO MUCH stuff that *I* wanted to do!" Because when you go back home, you'll get to start those relationships again, but otherwise you may have NEVER been able to have the experiences you had in Japan! ^_^ Being tied down to a person really limits things like that!

Yeah, I wonder why I didn't think of it earlier! Really, thanks so much! ^-^

I hope you're right. I'm worried what will happen once I'm back home. I've grown apart from some of my friends, even from my family, even from the German culture. Going back to Germany this summer will also be a test to see how it feels to be back. I might not go back to Germany, but try to find work in another European country. Really no idea yet. However, Europe is like a big family, the culture difference is not that big (well, for most countries) - a lot of Western cultures are quite close if you compare them to Japan.
Lately I can't take being all alone in my apartment the whole time anymore which is why I want to become more active and social anyways ^^;

It'll obviously be a big transition again, but I bet it will be kinda like riding a bike. Maybe a bit awkward at first, but you'll get the hang of it! :)

Being more active and social is a good idea for your health! I'm sorry that classes fill up so quickly and that gyms are expensive!! =O

It sounds like great plans you've made for your spring vacation :) Actually, both Shimane and Tottori university are universities I've considered for further education if I go to Japan. So it'll be interesting to see how the places are!

Have you gotten yourself a good thorough, overall health-check recently? It might be a good idea since you seem to have a few problems already. Although it might also be caused by stress as well, I know stress does that for me at least XD

I should also be socializing more myself, it's just so hard when there's lots of things to do (although I know that ain't a good excuse because my co-students seem to socialize all the time *sigh*) I also want a Wii, it would be fun to play tennis in my living room ^______^

I was going to tell you that the Rail-Pass is for temporary visitors only, but someone beat me to it on the very first comment .^__- That would have saved us soooo much money, right?

My mother has the two "Just Dance" games plus a Michael Jackson dance game for the Wii and she loves them. But yeah, you need space to move around, and your apartment doesn't seem to offer much. If you really wanted one and found a nice offer, you could always sell it back second-hand before leaving Japan.

I thought I would just mention that there are LOTS of exercise videos on Youtube, as well.

You can do repetitive stuff that will get your heart rate up, like running in place, it's just that it gets boring by yourself after a while. I actually think a gym is one way to feel more a part of the community, or at least get out of your apartment.
