Cuts, cuts², cuts³ in the German Naruto version  
Well, as I´ve already told you in this post Naruto is now on German tv.
A lot of people have been complaining about the German version.
The voices are not fitting, they pronounce some of the names wrong.
And the German opening which isn´t even in German is horrible, too !!

But the most annoying thing are the cuts. We have the US version of Naruto - and as you might know there are already a lot of cuts - but the German version has even MORE cuts !
I want to give you some examples here - you will soon know what I´m talking about:

The Japanese original version:

See any difference ? (-__-;) ...

So as you can see the Americans cut out the weapon and a BIT of the blood. The Germans cut out the WHOLE thing !!! So as you can imagine the story changes a lot with stuff like that !!!
Everyone looks shocked and we Germans only think "Huh ? Why ? He has only a SMALL wound that isn´t even bleeding !!!" ... OMG ! *shakes head*

They edited this scene a little bit. See ? Less blood !

Ahr ... un ... Sasuke is totally fine !?! Then why is Sakura fainting in the German version ????!!!!!! WERFASDHRTASD !!! (x_x;) ...

Ok, now where did the blood go ??? You know nosebleeding is only a metapher for another thing .. yes we ALL know ! Would it be better if they show THAT directly ? XDDDDD ... Oh man .. it´s just NOSEbleeding !!! WTF!? Why cut that out ? (x___x;) ....

WTF!? It was only a REALLY small amount of blood around his mouth and even THAT is cut out ? o___o .....

Yes, they actually DID it. ... They DID it. ..... I´m curious how he will fight with not really having a weapon. How can they DO that ?
Why are they broadcasting a series that they obviously consider to be too violent ???!!!! THEN broadcast sport series or e.g. Yakitate Japan! .. oh no wait, they´re throwing bread at horses, that´s NOT good ! The little kids might do that, too, and that´s just too cruel and violent, isn´t it ? XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
If they want that series to be for LITTLE children then why did they make an ENGLISH opening ???!!! Little children in Germany CAN´T understand English you know ?!? XDDDDDD .... oh well.



Finally some scenes that were totally left out !:

interesting. i think the problem is culture? in the us and europe they think cartoons are only for children?

I´m not sure. I would say that the USA is much more critical with those things than Germany. This is the FIRST anime that has so many cuts !!! And I just don´t get why NOW and why with this series ?!?
Well Dragonball Z for example was broadcastet around 7pm, so there were only little cuts.
And I don´t think that they think that cartoons are only for children. But the tv station that is broadcasting Naruto IS, but why are they buying series as 'brutal' as Naruto in the first place then ? (x__x;) Ayah~ ...

If they would have done THAT to a series I know and love (like I said before FMA or HxH) I would really flip out x_____x; ..... it´s really ridiculous O_O; ....

I haven't see the italian version yet, but I don't think that they would go as far as the german one...normally they clean up only some blood here and there, but cancel a huge weapon like Zabuza's one is yet to be seen...

btw, in my country MTV actually shows anime without any censorships, but with big ads before the opening saying "this cartoon is not for little children" which makes more sense...too bad that Naruto is on another channel.

After this revelations of yours, I doubt that I want to see it XDD

Yeah I know, I LOVE the Italian anime versions in general :)
Normally they only edit a bit of blood and stuff in Germany, too, I don´t get why they´re exaggerating that much this time O__O; ....

Oh and MTV is showing some animes in Germany, too. As far as I know they´re uncut and the dub is usually pretty good :)

Oh mein Goo~oott, ich hatte ja schon gehört, dass die deutsche Version schlimm sei, aber SO schlimm????!!!! (->jupp, jedes einzelne Ausrufe- und Fragezeichen entspricht gerade meinem Unverständnis)
Naja, das erklärt wirklich, warum ich mich fragte, was dieser komische Stumpf in Zarashis Händen sei und warum der andere so seltsam schwitzend reagiert, und viele andere Dinge natürlich auch... und warum ich gerne eine Vorgeschichte mit dem Neunschwänzigen gesehen hätte!>_< Also muss ich mir die Serie doch wieder komplett aus dem Netz ziehen...>__> *seufz* Ich hatte schon angefangen die Serie in Frankreich zu schauen, aber ob die die gleichen Zensuren enthält...? Das würde mich jetzt wirklich interessieren.^^; Schließlich läuft Naruto dort schon SEHR viel länger als hier.^^;

Thanks you for posting this. That opening is so horrible that I'm glad I was able to see/hear it. I may just pass it around so everyone can enjoy it. I don't like the opening for the US version, but that was just....I can't even explain. >D

If they ever show Zabuza fight with the edited sword I want to see how that would actually go about too. Perhaps he'll beat them with the handle. :)

Oh the interesting thing is that in the episode today Zabusa´s sword was there again ! They´re really consequential (x___x;) ... *coughs*
I guess you´ll become crazy sooner or later if you watch too much of the German Naruto version XDDDD

Wow... they certainly did a number with this one. The only thing that's sort of understandable is the nosebleeds... it's sort of a Japanese cultural in-joke (from what I understand,Japanese parents would tell their kids that if they think dirty thoughs they'll get a nosebleed... sort of how in American people would tell their kids that if they masturbate they'll go blind) so a lot of your typical Western audience (except the hardcore anime fans) just wouldn't get it. The rest doesn't make sense.
Hopefully they'll release an uncut version like they did in the US, only with German subs. I actually liked watching the first German ep, it gave me an opportunity to practice my German, and I'm sad that they're butchered it so badly.

Yeah that´s probably right, but we HAD a lot of anime series before Naruto (of course) and they never cut out the nosebleedings as far as I can remember, so it just doesn´t make any sense o__O; ...

Agreed with Scarlettfan84, it really is culture when you get down to it. And in the case with the U.S., the FCC (I HATE THEM!) and actually, to most Americans, cartoons and comics are only meant for children (which is just plain stupid). Or they figure the age rating thing (14+ for Naruto and Yu Yu Hakusho, among others), still applies to the younger generation and they cut out a lot of things that make certain characters the way they are. Imagine my shock when they let he Ninja Centerfold stay, but still cut out the kissing scene with Naruto and Sasuke. Uh, yeah, no kid is going to be able to see that these two didn't want to kiss, but were bumped into each other, so it was an accident. But that's pathetic, cutting out the weapons. Are you serious? And the blood? It's just not the same. *stands over un-cut versions grave*

But in comparing the opening tracks...the U.S. one sucks. The German one is better...except the whole "Believe it!" thing. It sounds better than the U.S. one. Either way, it's murder to the Japanese opening and ending tracks because those are just wonderfully chosen. The least they could have done was just ATTEMPTED to translate the tracks into their language, which they did with Yu Yu Hakusho (U.S. I don't know about Germany) and Ranma 1/2 (No seriously, the German one is hilarious if not completely slaughtered). *Prays the un-cut version of Naruto has original tracks*will order from Japan if not*

Well, when I was a kid .. maaaany years ago XD there were series like "Captain Future" or "Saber Rider" and stuff - they weren´t THAT brutal but as far as I can remember it wasn´t cut (or at least only a little bit). After watching an episode we kids ran out and 're-played' what we´ve seen and NOONE has gone crazy cuz they´ve seen too much violence as kids or stuff ! I think it´s much more dangerous to show kids throwing around with weapons with NO consequences at all. I mean a kid might think "Ok, so if I hurt my friend with a knife it´s NOT dangerous, he won´t bleed ..." .... well that´s only my opinion o__o; ....

Yakitate Japan! would be an anime series that is a lot more suitable for children, but the big issue is cultural difference. In a lot of Japanese series you'll get inside cultural references such as certain festivals or associations. It's just too darn difficult to transfer to a different audience, hence the editing of the nosebleed is a forgivable edit. The rest of the changes are really unacceptable for people who've actually watched the Japanese series.

Might be right, but I think a main point is also that they want to make money with the series or rather with merchandising. So they´re trying to broadcast series with a lot of merchandising (like Yugi-Ô or Pokémon) ... and stuff like Yakitate Japan isn´t very profitable I guess :/ ... *sigh*

Is it wrong to find the German opening hillarious? Because it is XD ....

The German edits also seem to be equil to some of the crap that AS pulled when they first started playing stuff like Cowboy Bebop. I remember that most of the edits in Black Dog Serenade were for blood and blood alone...even the slightest bit of blood like blood drops, were edited out. Some of those edits are retained today in the reruns...

Geez, this really reminds me of the time when DBZ first came on the air here in the US... and how badly edited the series was then. I've yet to see any episode of Naruto, but I don't like what I see with the German TV edits.

But to think a series you know and like is edited like that ... I won´t go through that again ... it was HORRIBLE enough when we heard Vegeta´s German voice the first time (;__;) ... waaaah ... don´t wanna remember that ._____.

Hätte ich mehr Zeit würde ich jeden Tag zuerst die japanische Folge und danach die deutsche Version anschauen - denke da hätte man viel zu lachen :P

OMG THAT many of cuts????? I didnt watch it yet in German television and I am not sure if I want... Heh I remember that the more repeating of DBZ the more cut they made, but this is really sick. I mean do they think, that people are just THAT stupit...?

*giggles* yes obviously they think KIDS these days are that stupid ... well I heard they´re afraid of the reactions of the parents so they cut out that much, but I also heard that it will become less in further episodes .. although I can´t imagine that right now (^^;)

It should be aired on Adult Swim like Bleach. And they should keep the openings and the endings like Bleach. The Bleach dubs are amazing compared to the Naruto dubs. 'Nuff said.

I knew they were doing cuts with the American version (which already got me angry, so I don't even bother trying to watch it) but totally take out the blood!!? Sigh, where is the amusement anymore..
