[J Food]: Bento #4+5!~♪
Huhu~

At the weekend for my part-time job I´ve made 2 bentos again :)
Because I didn´t have much time before leaving, it´s nothing special though.

Bento #4:

Upper left tier: 3 triangle-shaped onigiri, filled with turkey hen (Putenwurst) and wrapped with nori
Lower left tier: Maultaschen (Swabian pockets) sliced into small long pieces
Upper right tier: sliced carrots, red paprika and cucumber
Lower right tier: one more Maultasche + 2 inarizushi

.. and yes it was too much to eat for me XDDDD *lol*

Everything ready and packed. Using Tupperware until I´ll buy new bento boxes ^^;

Bento #5:

Upper left tier: Colored, boiled egg + spring roll, sliced into 2 pieces
Lower left tier: Sliced carrots and cucumber, triangle-shaped onigiri, wrapped with nori
Right tier: almond biscuits, haribo
Plus: egg-shaped salt cellar ^^V

And everything packed and ready again XD (and yes I´ve used cold bags or whatever "Kühlakku"´s called in English XD ... the second time I used too much, so the food was too cold. Well, I´m still learning anyway, nee? ^^;;;

Oh and I´ve started a small Bento Gallery (^-^;)

That´s all for today.
Bye buuu~

OH MY. These looks yummy! Your onigiri is perfectly shaped. How long have you spent on these bentos? I'm going to learn how to make an onigiri one day. XDD~

Thank you ^^
Well, I suck at making cute onigiri shapes, that´s why I use a special mold for them ^^; ... it makes things easier.
Hmm, good question. I think actually DOING s.th. didn´t take so long .. perhaps 20 minutes. But you have to prepare the rice (which have to lay still in the water for half an hour), cook the Swabian pockets or the spring rolls in my case (if you don´t have leftovers from the day before) etc. ^^
But what I did was really something quick, I didn´t have much time back then ^^;;;

O___O I heard that you need to use special rice called Pearl rice to make onigiri or sushi right? Haha I see. But it's still good. I bet I'll take 2 hours to make a simple bento. o(n__n)o
(Reply) (Parent) (Thread) (Link)
[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com on October 16th, 2007 02:49 pm (UTC)
Well, yeah. The best rice to use for onigiri is sushi rice, it´s not expensive (at leat not here where I live, I have no idea what´s the deal in other countries ^^;)
Err, no I don´t think you´ll need 2 hours unless you want to make an uber-cute and artistic bento ^^;
Well usually you can use left-overs for your bento, but the thing is I usually don´t have any leftovers from dinner ;o; ..... *headdesk* XD I should eat less in the evening I guess? XD

How did you color the eggs!? These looks FAB!

[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com on October 16th, 2007 02:39 pm (UTC)
Oh, I didn´t color them. You can buy them like that here in Germany ^^;
I only know how to color "empty" eggs for Easter, so ... I have no idea how they do it with hard-boiled eggs, sorry (^^;;)

P.S.: Love your MatsuJun icon <3

In order to color hardboiled eggs, you can either buy a kit (in the US, the most well known kits are made by brand called Paas, but there are more out there) or use a combination of food coloring, water and vinegar.

You can also use white wax or a white crayon to make markings on the eggs, neither of which take the dye, and that will leave neat patterns on your eggs. There are also a number of other techniques that can be used to really make colored eggs unique, and I found a website for you (and anyone else who may be interested in learning more about dyed eggs) here: http://www.amazingmoms.com/htm/holiday_eastereggs.htm

(PS - I added you after you posted the wonderful pictures of your trip to Japan in the foodporn community. I find your journal fun and quite interesting, plus, I lived in Germany for a few years. I speak a little German, and plan on taking German as a minor in college because I wish to become fluent in the language. Anyhow, I just wanted to introduce myself - my name is Jenifer. I hope you find the egg decorating information helpful, or at least interesting!)

... Is it weird that I've never eaten an onigiri before?...
:S
I think it's crazy how much I want to eat one after seeing your bentopicspams.

Am hungry now...

ah!... that is one very cute egg-shaped salt cellar.

[identity profile] chochajin.livejournal.com on October 16th, 2007 03:25 pm (UTC)
Und danke!!! ^-^;

That´s what most people think at first, but for women my age 600ml are enough, although I always use a LOT of veggies and fruits and they don´t all fit in ^^; But you don´t need to buy Japanese bento boxes, you can use normal lunch boxes as well ^^

Uwaa~ All of that looks really yummy. xD I wish I had the patience to even attempt to make a bento..even if I don't have any actual bento boxes. xDD

You don´t need a bento box for it, you can use normal lunch boxes as well. As you can see I only have one bento box so far, so I´m using normal lunchboxes as well ^^;

I probably used to have one...when I was in like elementary school or something, but I guess as I got older I didn't use it much anymore. xD and in my last two years of high school, especially my last year, I stopped really eating lunch at school anyways...xD

Yah ... it was really too much for me (^^;;) .... I always think it´s only onigiri, that´s not food, it´s only a snack, but eat 2 and you´re totally full XD
Thanks, I didn´t even know we had s.th. like that, I discovered it only by chance ^^

oh and bento boxes are a little pricey if you don't get them in japan ;_;
they're hard to find! at least i find it hard to find japanese bento boxes here. >:

Well, I´m going to buy some bento accessories and stuff at ebay soon ... prolly .. although I hate ebay, but there´s no other way right now ;__; ... and after that I´ll be able to make cuter bentos ^^ .. although the most important thing is that the food is yummie in my opinion ^^;

I wanna slap myself for not buying more bento stuff in Japan ^^;;;; *sigh*
